I don't think it is ground as fine as play sand so should work better. Just be sure to rinse it really really well before putting it in the tank. I have pool filter sand in all my tanks.

Fill the jar 3/4 with water 1/4 with your dust and leave room to shake the mixture. Put cellophane over the top before putting the lid on.

Thanks for the idea and tips.. I'm only using a small amount (for now), but even so, can't beat the value. Prices for 'aquarium gravel' at a fish store are downright ludicrous.

The Lowes brand was 3.89 for a 40 lb bag and the HD was 3.39. The Lowes has some bits just a little bit larger and was a more natural river stone.

网页2012年4月22日 · Most people add the dirt, then the gravel/sand and then plant, but I planted the plants before I added the gravel. Unfortunately I didn't use enough gravel, so some of the dirt seeped through and made my tank a dirty mess. Make sure you have a thick enough layer of whatever top substrate you use (it took awhile for me to get the water clear again).
