埃尔切位于西班牙巴伦西亚自治区阿利坎特省，面积326.1平方公里，人口247,163。 第一批居民为伊比利亚人，后来受腓尼基人、古希腊人、罗马人的统治。西哥特人建立了教区。穆斯林统治下城市衰落了，直到1264年基督徒回到埃尔切。18世纪开始兴盛，到了19世纪在铁路与工业的刺激下进一步发展。 1897年发现了彩色石质胸像“埃尔切夫人”，据信是伊比利亚人的遗物。 以皮革制品为传统产业，但在2004年9月16日发生了针对中国货品倾销的骚乱事件。约400名不明身份的西班牙人在街头放火烧毁了一辆载有中国温州商品鞋集装箱的卡车。
