Do not go off the trail, many people have fallen by doing this- Take some nuts, maybe some bananas and a few granola bars with some water

If you go up and down from the Echo Canyon trailhead, you can definitely do it in 2-3 hours. If you do the whole length from Echo Canyon to Cholla trailhead or vice versa and have to get an Uber or walk back to your car, maybe not.
What's the average temperature during Camelback hike in August?

It depends on the time of day! It can be 114 degrees at 1 PM. Best to hike VERY early in the AM and bring more water than you think you need. Lately the average temp has been 104.
