( NewsNation) — The worst of Helene’s storm is behind, but the aftermath troubles much of the southeastern U.S. with at least 56 people dead and millions without power days after the former hurricane’s landfall. Now considered a post-tropical cyclone, Helen’s catastrophic flooding remains a concern as it moves east toward Kentucky and Tennessee.

Torrential rain from Storm Helene has ravaged parts of North Carolina and Tennessee - the latest south-eastern US states to suffer in a disaster that has killed at least 63 people. In North Carolina the mountain city of Asheville was largely cut off by flooding on Saturday,

At least 44 people died in five states from storm-related causes following Helene’s landfall on Thursday night.

The storm’s downpours have brought flooding far inland in the Southeast and Appalachia, where few homeowners are insured against it.
