If you have bedrock you'll have to shoot it, and that's very expensive. In my area (southern Wiscsonsin) you'll have bedrock just under a normal basement.

Discreet hardening of doors, windows, garage and she'd are probably the easiest and cheapest way to keep stuff where it belongs. As mentioned above, C clamps on rollers for garage work great.

As a basic trauma kit, you need 2x2 and 4x4 gauze pads, 1inch wide by several feet long wrap, 2 or more tourniquets (I recommend CAT by NARescue), quick clotting gauaze, 2 or more cravat's, 2 or more SAM Splints of med and long sizes.

When you have more time you can then keep what ever portion you want mowed weekly. The more trees (fruit or nut) you plant or the more structures you build the more the work load goes up.
